Ramadan Muslim Children’s Book: What Inspired Me to Write One?

We Need More Ramadan Muslim Children’s Books
Let’s be honest—there just aren’t enough Ramadan Muslim children’s books, Islamic books for kids, or Muslim children’s books out there. That’s something I’ve been thinking about for a long time.
Stories are powerful. They can inspire us, bring us closer together, and teach important lessons about iman, gratitude, and unity. So when my child asked me about a story in the Quran and how it relates to Ramadan, something clicked. That’s when the idea for Ramadan Rhymes for Little Hearts was born. I’ve always loved storytelling—since I was a child. And now, as a mom, I pray to write stories that connect with kids and families of all cultures.
What Inspired Me to Write This Book

Ramadan is my favorite time of year. It’s a month of love, community, and blessings that strengthen us mentally, physically, and spiritually. Growing up Muslim, I have the most vibrant memories of Ramadan: fasting with my family, gathering for iftar, and feeling the joy of being part of a community united by faith.
I wanted to bottle up that feeling and share it in a children’s book. That’s why I wrote Ramadan Rhymes for Little Hearts. It’s playful and fun, but also engrained with powerful teachings about the deeper meaning of Ramadan. It’s a story for my child and yours, and I pray it finds a place in your home.
Muslim Children Need Muslim Children’s Books
Lastly, I really believe that Muslim children need Muslim children books. Because you know what’s missing on most bookshelves? Stories where Muslim kids see themselves! Representation matters. Our children deserve to have books that celebrate their faith—books that teach them about Ramadan, the pillars of Islam, and what it means to be Muslim.
Additionally, stories like Ramadan Rhymes for Little Hearts celebrate the diversity within the Muslim community and show kids that they’re part of a global community. Muslims around the world live by values of faith, kindness, gratitude, and love. Lastly, they give other families a chance to learn about our beautiful faith.

What Makes This Ramadan Muslim Children’s Book Special?
Well, I’m glad you asked 😁:
-
Playful Rhymes with Meaning: Ramadan Rhymes for Little Hearts isn’t just a fun read— it’s a tool to teach kids about the true meaning of Ramadan including dua, prayer, thoughtfulness, charity, community and many other Islamic values. Through rhymes, it brings to life very powerful intentions and duas including for example, “La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah“, which translates to “there is no power nor strength except with Allah.” How true and how powerful if we can engrain this reflection in our little ones from a tender age.
- Signs Are All Around Us: Ramadan Rhymes for Little Hearts is also a tool to emphasis what we know is true – Allah’s signs are all around us. Signs including our shadows which prostrate – to the animals, birds and elements in nature that submit to Allah (swt). This is one of the most beautiful aspects that is emphasized within the Quran that has touched my life. It’s also my favorite spread in the book!
- Building Good Character: Ramadan is the perfect time to nurture values like kindness, patience, and gratitude. This book helps kids understand these lessons in a way that’s easy to remember and carry with them all year long.
- Many Families, One Faith: I wanted this book to show the beauty of diversity within the Muslim community. Whether you’re Black or African descent, Asian, Middle Eastern, European descent or from anywhere else, we are many families, one faith.
Your Role in Supporting Muslim Children’s Books
I’ve also started a YouTube channel where I share daily Juz readings during Ramadan. It’s a great way to connect with the Quran and make the month even more meaningful. You can check it out here.
If you’ve read and enjoyed Ramadan Rhymes for Little Hearts, I’d be so grateful if you’d leave a review and share it with friends and family. Reviews make such a big difference—they help more families discover the book and its message.
